Birding, Botany and Insects, in Southern Portugal

Wild Away has been created by Dr Julie Statham founder of Portugal Walks in response to those that come to Portugal and Southern Spain and want to learn more about the superb variety of birds, flora and fauna that this area has to offer. She has written extensively on wild life matters and regularly leads groups to look at the fauna and flora of Portugal.

With regards to birding we work with several experts within Portugal however our main 'man' is Frank McCilntock of Quinta do Barranco just north of the Algarve. He has more than 20 years experience of guiding in Southern Portugal and is an expert on the birds of the 'Montado' (Cork Oak forests) as depicted in the BBC film of the same name.
